Sentry® Insurance Reduces IT Expenses and Increases Data Availability with NEON Enterprise Software’s Database Management Products
Sentry Reduces Overall IMS Costs and Improves Data Availability with High-Performance Tools from NESI
SUGAR LAND, TX. – November 15, 2005 – NEON Enterprise Software, Inc. (NESI), the technology leader in enterprise data availability software and services, today announced that Sentry® Insurance has completed its implementation of the NESI IMS database management product suite, measurably reducing IT costs and increasing data availability.
Sentry Insurance, which offers a complete line of insurance products to protect businesses, cars, homes, lives and retirement incomes, evaluated several IMS software vendors before selecting database management products from NESI including Mission Control, Eclipse iRecover and the Eclipse Reorganization Utilities. Sentry selected NESI products to reduce its overall IMS software costs and improve data availability through better performing tools.
“The Eclipse Reorganization Utilities allow us to perform our database reorganizations with greater ease and provides many performance improvements,” said Robb Hermes, database administrator, Sentry Insurance. “By using Eclipse iCopy, we have reduced central processing unit (CPU) usage and cost by 50 percent.”
The Eclipse iRecover tool has allowed the Sentry team to create stand-alone incremental image copies and produce a media inventory report to ensure the system is prepared for successful recovery. Using Eclipse iRecover and Eclipse iBuild, Sentry has reduced the number of images copies needed from 7,000 to 2,000 and reduced its database index recovery time from five hours to 15 minutes.
“Most DBAs will tell you that they are tasked with doing more, with less time,” said Don Pate, president and CEO, NESI. “Sentry came to us with the challenge of lowering their IMS costs, while being able to maintain or improve data availability and functionality – a request we often hear from customers. Using our products, Sentry was able to reduce the time required to conduct reorganizations and recoveries, and reduce the overall cost of their IMS environment.”
Hermes added that Sentry selected NESI for its responsive technical support team.
