DBA: No Longer a Recession-Proof Job?

Have you ever taken a look at the Jobfox Top 25 Most Recession-Proof U.S. Job Candidates? The report
identifies the jobs — classified by specific professions — that are in greatest demand by recruiters and other employer agents using Jobfox to search for and find new or replacement workers.

Well, the latest Jobfox report, reflecting the most wanted U.S. professions during a 120-day period ending October 28, 2008, contains some bad news for DBAs. Evidently, DBA has fallen out of the Top 25. Other professions falling out of the Top 25 in October were: Advertising (Online and Offline), Testing/Quality Assurance, Business Analysis (Research) and Business Analysis (Software Implementation).

Maybe DBAs ought to consider pursuing a career as a Technology Executive? Evidently, tech execs are hot, shooting up eight spots on the Top 25 to No. 16. Other technology-related jobs on the Top 25 list include #1 Sales Representative/Business Development (which I always thought were two entirely different jobs), #5 Software Design/Development, #7 Network/System Administration, and new at #23 is product management.

But I wonder, if a recession is big enough and lasts long enough, is there really any job that is truly recession-proof?
